On June 28-29, 2022, Focuslight will be presenting at the ASTech Summit, a digital event on technologies for autonomous systems hosted by Laser Focus World.

At this summit, a presentation titled “Advanced Line Laser for Hybrid Solid-State LiDAR” will be performed online by He Zhe, Product Manager of the Automotive Business Unit of Focuslight, in English.

 

Abstract

To bring the LiDAR technology to the pre-installed mass production phase of passenger cars, a cost-efficient architecture with automotive-grade reliability is called for. Focuslight developed a novel line-beam technology for LiDAR transmitters using pulsed edge-emitting lasers (EELs) or vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) as the light source to produce a line beam with a very small divergence angle in the horizontal direction and uniform diffusion in the vertical direction through precisely designed and manufactured beam shaping components. The uniform and precisely shaped line beam will be used with line array detectors and rotating mirrors (or e.g., 1D MEMS) to perform 1D horizontal scanning within a certain field of viewing angle (typical 120°), forming a high-precision point cloud with high-line-density and high-resolution required by long-range detections.

Compared with other approaches, the hybrid solid-state LiDAR technology solution based on the line laser has significant advantages in overall performance, manufacturability, automotive-grade reliability and mass production cost, and is becoming one of the leading technical routes for the mass production of LiDAR pre-installation.

He Zhe has degrees of M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University and M.S. in General Engineer/Mechanics from Arts et Métiers ParisTech. He joined Focuslight in 2020 as Product Manager and then works as Product Project Manager of LiDAR transmitter module in Automotive BU, leading the team to develop the product of the in-vehicle LiDAR line laser module series.
